Artist Traci Bautista

Traci is creative director and owner of treiC Designs. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Woodbury University, with a major in Graphic Design and Marketing. Prior to becoming a full-time artist, Traci Bautista held jobs as a graphic designer, event planner, marketing director, professional cheerleader, elementary art history teacher, fashion designer, Web designer, and tradeshow manager – just to name a few. Experiences that she gained in these positions, coupled with her innate drive to explore and create without boundaries are what contribute to her growing success as a collage and mixed media artist.

Traci travels across the country and internationally to offer workshops and classes on handmade books, art journals, mixed-media collage, and surface design. Combining her love of designing clothes, doodling and lettering, Traci creates vibrantly colored handmade journals, custom handbags and paintings that are layered with rich textures of stained papers, painted sewn fabric, “girlie glam” ink drawings and free style lettering. Her artwork has been featured in Somerset Studio, Altered Couture, cloth.paper.scissors, Creative TECHniques, Belle Armoire and various books. She has been a regular guest artist on HGTV & DIY Network Craft Lab. Traci is the author of, Collage Unleashed, and writes a regular column called Creativity Unleashed in Somerset Studio Magazine. To learn more about her artwork, events and daily musings visit www.treicdesigns.com or her blog http://kollaj.typepad.com.

Tutorial: Lace-trimmed silk scarf

lace edged scarfCraftStylish shows how to make this scarf with lace edging at the bottoms.  The silk will be soooo soft against your skin, and a pretty contrast with a tweedy winter coat.  Go to the tutorial.

Fabric intarsia: Felt-inlay patchwork

feltI’m enthralled. It never occurred to me that it’s possible to create inlay with fabric — much as woodcrafters do with veneer. And yet this needlework technique has been around at least since the 14th century! Crafting with wool felt is at a fever pitch right now, and here’s another perfect application for this luxurious fabric. Needleprint blog tells us a…

Live Chats and Forum Discussions

Hi everyone!
Thanks for stopping by and reading the chat and participating in our Live Chat. I will be adding notes on the chat later this week in a forum set up after the chat. Please continue the questions for our guest on forum I have set up for each topic. ;)

*There’s nothing to do during a live blog other than read, watch and occasionally send in a comment or vote in the polling questions. * It’s not a chatroom. You go to largely find out what the writer has to say. An open chat with thirty or more readers turns into poor, disjointed content very quickly. * Your comments are published at the writer’s discretion. They see everything sent to them but only they can publish your comments for everyone to see. * Our ‘autoscroll’ feature ensures you’re always shown the newest content without having to refresh or scroll your screen. You can toggle this on or off by using the controls at the bottom of the live blog.

* Subtle sound effects alert you to new content as the writer publishes it. This can also be toggled on or off as you like.

I quite like this one. Even though the entire time i was looking at it as a horizontal. In fact i'd had enough of it and thought of it as a failure. But i thought i'd take a picture of it and upload it to istockphoto anyway in case someone wanted to use it for grunge texture, or something like that. But when viewing it vertical like this, i really like it.

I planned on painting shapes, like i did for the bodhi tree, but in this case i'd paint repetitive triangles, thinking of sails. It really wasn't abstract enough in the beginning so i kept adding and subtracting layers many times and made some scratches and texture lines with a watercolor pencils until finally i was just through with it. It wasn't going where i'd hoped it would.

Looking at it vertical is a really happy accident.
