Violette-author and artist
A Canadian Artist born in Casablanca, Morocco to Spanish parents, Violette is a compulsive painter, who paints with the colour and warmth of Mediterranean Sunshine.
She works in a rush of artistic energy, painting not only on paper and canvas, but on whatever object falls beneath her gaze. She feasts on gorgeous bright colours and glitter and sunshine and joy, producing delightfully playful images filled with naivete and charm, poignant meaningful observations, wild patterns and colours. Violette's art and life have become inseparable, her whole house has become an example of her creative energy.
Violette's spirit and artistic drive are completely uncontrollable, her creativity bubbles out of her and expresses itself in all that she does. Sometimes her work is simply a whimsical little adventure of delightful pure graphics, peppered with the moons, stars, suns, butterflies, ufo's, flying people, flying animals that delight her and constantly penetrate her art. Sometimes however her work has a serious side, a social comment to make, or a personal feeling to convey, even then, Violette's love of patterns and colour and life bring a spirit of delicate optimistic love to all that she does.

Monthly Challenge
FEBRUARY 2010 -- CHALLENGE DETAILS
Create a fabric or mixed media piece that is based on a traditional quilt block, but then mix it up somehow... maybe add in some industrial embellishments (accent your 9-patch with copper washers), or skew the block's design (straighten out that Drunkard's Path), or blend in some unusual materials (think wire mesh, wool roving, Lutradur).
It's EASY to enter — all FAMM members are welcome!
Just post a photo of your challenge piece in the FAMM Challenge Flickr Group no later than midnight PST 2/28/10. Your work must be created in the challenge month. You can enter up to three times with separate, individual pieces. If you do not have your own Flickr account, you can email a .jpg file to me and I will post it for you. I will draw a winner's name at random (using an integer generator from www.random.org) from all entries and announce it on 3/1/10. Good luck and have fun!

Printing directly on to fabric ! 11 Replies
Just used the bubble jet set and freezer paper to print on to silk ! What a buzz. The handle of the fabric is much better than when you print on to paper with adhesive !

For a long time, I tried to make my living as a handweaver. I used to weave 3' x 5' bound weave rugs. This one is one of my all time favorites. It is in the collection at the Heritage Farm Museum. I dyed all the weft yarn....indigo, madder roots, onion skins and cochineal....some of the yellow and red were over dyed with indigo to get the green and purple colors. I borrowed this rug from it's owner, Mike Perry, to get some images for a grant I wrote last month.
