Adding fabric to paper or canvas

I hope this is the right place to post this question. How to add a piece of fabric to a canvas or cardstock in order to create texture or interest to an art project?

In a nutshell, fuse, stitch or glue . It's worth making up a wee accordian book with a different kind of fabric stuck onto each page in one way or another...that way, you can see for yourself which way is best for which material. For me, the thinner it is, the less likely it is I'll use glue.

Dear Lydia ,
I am often playing with paper and fabric . I am adding them with PVA glue mixed with water. After drying you can stich or sew etc...another posibility is acrylic gel medium, but more I like PVA. Hugs Barbara

I love to do this too and I use melted wax alot especially if the material is light weight but it works well even on heavier embossed types. If the fabric is too loud in colors the wax mutes it down too. I have used Paver pol too and the fun part with this is that you can create pleats wrinkles and shape it as it dries straight on to the canvas and then embellish and paint after. Have fun don't question your creative vision just lay it down and do what I do make it stick! LOL smiles Michelle

With canvas, as in an artist's canvas, whether stretched or as a "board', i've had good success with plaster of paris with some PVA glue added to the water. It can be very sculptural and when still wet, you can press fabric, trims and ephemera in, "push" it around a bit and create depth by carving into also. While stilll damp it takes dyes and paints well too.
