Be Creative!

I don't have many fabric stores around here. I have tried Jo-Anns but rarely find fabric I am looking for. I am looking for fabric with writing and calligraphy. I also like faces. Any suggestions? xxoo Astrid

You could try stamping plain or print fabric with lettering or printing from your computer onto recycled fabrics etc - or even hand writing your own fabrics depending on volume of fabric required at any one time - good luck with your search

When I need fabric, I start my search at www.quiltshops.com Equilter, already mentioned, has lots of fabulous fabrics that I seldom see on quiltshops.com Another one that isn't a member of quiltshops is www.virginiaquilter.com If you get on their mailing list, you'll find out when they are having their free shipping for orders of $25 or more. I find free shipping to be the best online deal. www.webfabrics.net has a lot of the "collections" of fabrics such as Moda Marbles and Hoffman batiks. There are so many online fabric shops, it's hard to go wrong buying that way!

P.S. on your search for calligraphy/writing fabric: Lonni Rossi does a LOT of fabrics with writing (I use fabric with words in my art too). Her site is www.lonnirossi.com

Why not dye your own? I'm about to make some cloth with writing on, by dint of taking a pen and writing on a piece of handdyed cloth...but it would work just as well on a piece of plain or WOW fabric...easy peasy!

Are you still looking for fabric with writing?

I'm a bit late with an answer, just saw the question. All the answers are good and I hope you get inspired to create your own but if not, www.fabricdepot.com is another good store with great discounts every day. also www.fabric.com has been good in the past. I haven't looked at their site for awhile, but they give good value and cut their yardage with an extra inch.

So, what did you come up with in your search? Just wondering.

I go to charity shops and buy old cloths which I then recycle into quilts or other works of art. The great thing about using this source is that you get lovely worn fabric for projects. I also print onto fabric using my printer. I just sew a piece of fabric onto A4 thin cardboard and then feed it carefully through my printer, works really well.

If you are still looking for fabric, contact me jamrushing@yahoo.com. I am liquidating my commercial fabric stash and I may have some fabric that you may like! I have a lot of fabric in my studio on ArtFire ~ StudioJules ~, but the fabric I'm thinking of hasn't been posted yet. So give me a shout and I'll email you a picture of the fabric. Another great online shop is Cabbage Rose Jules

Could you try stamping your own perhaps. I am lucky as everytime I visit my mums she gives me some fabrics that she has been hoarding in the loft! I guess I get my love of fabric from her. I also try charity shops and flea markets where sometimes you can find good material off oversize blouses or old curtains, duvet covers etc
