Thanks again to Phyllis for taking time out and answering questions on art licensing and selling designs. We only scratched the surface, so I know ya'll will think of many more questions after the chat is over.

If you find a books and sites that you would like to share on art licensing, please post that here too. The one that Phyllis and I have is “Art Licensing 101” by Michael Woodward.

The sites are tele classes online by J’net Smith (www.jnetsmith.com) and The Art of Licensing on Yahoo Groups and LinkedIN.com

Hi Phyllis,
Thanks for providing us with your knowledge.
While I was surfing on the subject tonight found this article on "Free Art License" or " Licence Art Libre" and wanted to ask your opinion on this type of licensing .

I am opposed to the Free Art License. The first sentence pretty much sums it up - authorises you to freely copy, spread, and transform creative works while respecting the author's rights. At what point does it presume to protect the author's rights? The same thing with the object - OBJECT The aim of this license is to define the conditions under which you can freely enjoy this work. It is very slippery and undefined exactly what the author's rights are. This is in opposition to the copyright law and it does not go with the Berne Convention either - you create it, its yours. To me its saying you can copy or cheat a little, but don't carry it too far. Coping is coping, whether its a little or a lot. And its also too close the the recent Orphan Works bills that Congress tried to slip through last year that pretty much would have given all our rights away.
