Fiber Arts/Mixed Media

Be Creative!

I was just recently introduced to the idea of fabric postcards, via a quilting group. Now my head is buzzing with ideas.

Has anyone else made these? Mailed them? Received them in the mail? I think I'd want to test the abilities of the postal service by sending it without a wrapper, and see what happens. I'm such a kid, I'm so excited by the possibilities.

I have done a bunch of them and they are quite fun and addictive. I joined Art2Mail group and signed up to be placed in a group. As soon as they have 25 people, they go off and start an exchange. You have to mail a card to each person on the list and you get one in return.
Some people had no trouble getting any of their cards through the mail, while others were turned away. You can have them hand stamp the pieces and then put in clear plastic envelopes to mail. The post office has jacked the price up on mailing them so you have to take that into consideration.
You want to make sure that there is nothing sticking out far off the piece as it will screw up their machines. Make sure everything is securely fastened.
By all means, have a great time!!

I have sent and received lots of PCs in the post, admittedly a couple of years ago and have had the good fortune to have had no damaged cards and none of mine have been damaged and we sent ours"naked" in the UK post. I belonged to the British Quilters List(BLQ) a yahoo group and we had an offshoot group for Postcards.About 16 of us swapped once a month on a set theme. As a matter of interest Isent one last week to a friend and she got it undamaged. They are great fun and not too large a project to intimidate and when they start coming through the letter box its great. I am just about to start a project with local schoolchidren who find a simplified PC great too.

Yep, I've done the Art2Mail exchange as well and it was great fun. I also send a fabric postcard to my mom now and then; she gets a kick out of them. It's a great way for me to use up all those "leftovers."

I've sent many fabric postcards in the mail and they've always arrived safely. Just a caution -- once you send someone a fabric postcard for a birthday, in place of a store bought card, they really don't appreciate the purchased ones ever again!
