I was recently selected as a new vice president of the Surface Design Association, and am beginning a project on the organization's behalf. We are interested in establishing an on-line mentoring program for members. As part of the research for that project I have two questions for your consideration. Please write directly to me with answers and suggestions, rather than responding to the list. This seemed like the most efficient way to reach lots of creative minds at once!

My questions:
1. If you take workshops in surface design, who are the five best teachers you have worked with? Names are fine, but a short description of what you liked about them would be even more helpful.
2. Mentoring is a relationship between an established professional and a novice. If you were thinking of working with a mentor, what would be the most important thing you'd be working to achieve? Another phrasing - Why would you want to work with a mentor?

In addition:
I am computer savvy, but not when it comes to setting up on-line educational programs like classes or a regular networking session. If you have experience with this and would be interested in being on my committee to shape a mentoring program, please let me know. And if you would like to forward this to other lists or interested parties, please feel free to do so!

I wish I could afford to join your group but your membership fees are way out of my financial range right now. But if I could join I would really like the mentoring especially to help me figure out how to market or put my creations into venues where they could sell. I know I create one of a kind, quality work in multiple techniques in fiber but I lack access to places and people that who help me get my works noticed.
