Hi: New here. New to FM of any kind. Trying to get started on this stuff. I have been reading your comments. I appreciate your knowledge. I have just started with FM, and no so much E. But it looks like something I would like to try!

Hello Jackie,
The trouble I find with FME is that I get obsessed with small pieces of anything. Last time it was scraps of fabric. I don't think you can really be a bit obsessed.....well, I know I can't................

As a FME I am very please to join in with this group. I work a lot in layers and unless framing up would advise cutting your top layer slightly bigger than the rest if shrinking. Also always start machining from the centre of your work if you are just sewing fabrics together intially.I have a Bernina 1000 which I use all the time for free stitching.

Hi all, I haven't done a lot of fme, but do plan to do more. I do lots of textile stuff so fme will be another "weapon" in my arsenal. Blessings, Johoanna

Yes Evie-happens to me too. Noticed when doing latest fabric postcards. Thought it was just nature of FME.I don't use a hoop. I "fix" interfacing underneath-stiff one, then thin batting. My FME projects relatively small-postcards, small wall hangings.I love my B to death!!Give it a hug every day(this is amazing as I used to be "sewing phobic"!!!

Oops, sorry I didn't mean in fme, i just meant when stitching normally.

What are you using underneath? I've never had this happen with fme. Are you hooping?
Evie Zaccardelli Comment by Evie Zaccardelli on April 13, 2009 at 9:04am
Judith, when sewing thick fabrics, I find that the top layer ends up longer than what is underneath. I tried reducing the pressure but it does still happen although a bit less. Have you had this happen??

After a lifetime with a marvellous Singer, I decided I needed a new sewing machine and the Bernina was recommended by the Embroiderers Guild. I'm so happy with it!

Linda- congrats! Heard it's a good machine. Have been doing a bit of F.M.E. and love it. Bit hard on the back though if not careful. I got a Bernina 'cos our teacher (when beginning this technique) said it was the "toughest" machine for college students who use them in the day.Our class was on weekends. So many different things to do with this technique!
