Ah well, yes! I use - very carefully - a small cheap saucepan that I bought especially for batik. If you melt the wax carefully (stand over it and don't leave!) you can keep it melted with an occasional addition blast of gentle heat. It's worked for me very well, but you have to be aware of the fact that wax can overheat very easily and catch light.

Have you done batik? I'm trying to find out if it is possible to use those electric wax pots meant for body waxing to melt wax for batik. The special electric batik pot I've seen is only available in the UK (thus Uk electricity).

Oh, I forgot to add that both my DD's were born in Bristol, and I regard that part of the west country as home. As for the Great Barrier Reef,....well,...it just doesn't compare! (snort) Beautiful place where I nearly drowned. I could swim a tiny bit but when I looked down hoping to see fish, I got a clear view of the sea bed 60 feet below and got vertigo and panicked. (you couldn't make it up) DH winched me to safety, and as soon as I was home again I took proper swimming lessons and am now a qualified fish. Hope your son had more success x

Hi Annabel! Thanks for your note - gave me the excuse to luxuriate in your gallery once again - such a treat! I also took the time to read your wonderful bio! Again, such a treat! I see that you've been to the Great Barrier Reef! Lucky woman! My son visited it just last summer and considers it one of THE great adventures ever in his life! I also see that you know Weston-Super-Mare! My old Mummy was a Brit (and a war-bride who married a Canuck) and her old Mummy lived in Bristol the last 40+ years of her life so many were the outings to Weston-S-M when I visited. Do you know deeeeeeeear little Clevedon, too? I don't know what it is about that village, but it stole my heart many years ago. Cheers! Charlotte

Some say you can sense herring before they migrate/ David Bowie once sat on your lap/ You know lots of weird information about how apples breed/ You cook a mean barm brack/ You can tap dance a bit/ You can kill a houseplant at 50 paces just by looking at it/ You learnt to swim late in life but still tackled the barrier reef/ You have an armpit mole in exactly the same place as me/ You can communicate effectively with our dog/ The film Predator was loosely based on your life story/ You're taller than Michael J. Interests: Staring at things, chewing slowly, emailing/internet, gardening, painting, drawing, creating textile pieces for the wall, chocolate, voluntary work, walking old lurchers, being a prize muppet, rolling down slopes, smelling flowers, and looking up chimneys.
Favorite Music: Changes every week. Am liking Amy Winehouse, but am working on a textile piece based on a piece of Choral music called Spem In Alium - finding that's haunting me at the moment. Oh, and of course, Alabama 3 who are brill.
Favorite TV Shows: Shaun the Sheep, Dr Who, Gardening programmes, history programmes. I quite like shouting at the telly and telling it it's stupid.
Favorite Movies: I liked Pirates of the Caribbean 1 but only because of Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate. I hope I might like the film that will run in front of my eyes just before I die but I don't want to see it yet.
Favorite Books: To many to mention - I get through a couple a week if I'm lucky enough to have them. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell has to be my latest favourite.
About Me: I have gills like a carp. Thanks to my Pilates training, I can curl up in a ball like a pill bug and be rolled down a hill. Someone once told me that I should eat 5 portions of fruit a day and I see nothing wrong with 5 chocolate oranges. Heroes: Cabbages, Paul Merton. Bill Bailey. A really good cream tea. Sudeley Castle.

I belong to a group called Leamside Textiles

On Thursday we travelled to Gloucester to Sudeley Castle to put up a small exhibition of pieces we had worked on over a 6 week period. Our challenge was Snowdrops and the photo below shows some of the work we've done.

While we were there we had a look around - the Castle wasn't open to the public - and were able to photograph the exhibits, some of which were undergoing restorati… Continue
