About Me:
I'm a fibre artist with a passion for techniques, recycling, shiny fabrics and glittery things. As more and more of my play involves non-traditional fibres, I'm starting to call myself a mixed-media artist. I belong to a virtual fibre arts group called Fibre Art Studios.

I'm playing again

Here's a little piece I played with over the weekend. Japanese paper, fm stitched to felt and then overpainted with Acrylic paints. Silk ribbon, sloppy french knots and running stitch with DMC floss. It's not finished, and I'm not sure where it's going, but I'll probably put it aside u… Continue

Love those four day weekends

This is what I've been playing with this weekend. It was originally just an experiment on using acrylics on canvas. I liked the colours so much, I decided to take it a little further. Acrylic on fine canvas, thread painted tree on watersoluble stabilizer (overpainted in acrylics), free… Continue

I'm looking forward to a creative weekend

The prospect of four days off in a row, make me a very happy person. I finished the quilting on my acrylic on canvas piece, yesterday and am VERY happy with the results. I used a shiny piece of red satin type stuff on the back (I don't know what it was, but someone gave it to me, so it was free), and I swear that the back looks just as good as the front due to the heavy quilted texture. When I decide how I want to finish the edges (and actually do it), I'll take a picture and post the piece. I'm… Continue

Rain, Rain, Rain.....

It started raining, yesterday and will probably rain through today. The days are warmer now, and the snow is melting. The rain is going to wash away more of the snow, and will probably cause some flooding. The traffic will slow to a crawl, as it's known to do in Toronto, but it's nice to finally hear the birds and see a few patches of grass. My camera is ready! I can hardly wait for spring.

Work today, and tonight a little quilting and treadpainting on my new acrylic/canvas piece. I'll post whe… Continue

It will be a pleasure to meet you in Nov. I use to belong to the York Heritage Guild but I'm not really a quilter. Do you live in Toronto?

Hi Anne Marie,
I first started experimenting with organic crochet after reading a book called 'The Crochet Workbook' by Sylvia Cosh and James Walters. It's far more exciting than it sounds! It's available online at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crochet-Workbook-Sylvia-Cosh/dp/0312040326/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240615153&sr=1-2 Wow, that's a long link! Anyway - that was my first introduction to the techniques. I was lucky enough to meet Sylvia Cosh one year at an exhibition and she helped me with a couple of fiddly stitches. Unfortunately she died a couple of years after that - such a shame. A wonderfully inspiring lady though - and I still use the book for ideas.
There's also organic knitting which I incorporate sometimes. Jan Messent did a great book on that - also available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wool-n-Magic-Jan-Messent/dp/0855327022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240615842&sr=1-1
Prudence Mapstone (she's a featured artist on this site) is someone else who creates amazing pieces using organic knitting.
And yes, red is a wonderful colour - can't live without it!
Have a great weekend,
Chris

Good morning, Ann Marie! The idea for the Suffragette series is from my love of history and the most charming vintage faces on my old photos. I have really fallen in love with this project. I can't wait to find more lovely faces. I do love to create 3d. I LOVE texture ...and the rich textures you literally CREATE are totally enchanting....you can almost feel each layer! Well done!
