I belong to the Oakville Stitchery Guild. Wish I could find a group close to home as well. What about you, what local groups do you belong to?

I like your doll image very much, beautiful! I too make dolls and have for about 10 years now.

your work is Beautiful!!!
I first started experimenting with organic crochet after reading a book called 'The Crochet Workbook' by Sylvia Cosh and James Walters. It's far more exciting than it sounds! It's available online at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crochet-Workbook-Sylvia-Cosh/dp/0312040326/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240615153&sr=1-2 Wow, that's a long link! Anyway - that was my first introduction to the techniques. I was lucky enough to meet Sylvia Cosh one year at an exhibition and she helped me with a couple of fiddly stitches. Unfortunately she died a couple of years after that - such a shame. A wonderfully inspiring lady though - and I still use the book for ideas.
There's also organic knitting which I incorporate sometimes. Jan Messent did a great book on that - also available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wool-n-Magic-Jan-Messent/dp/0855327022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240615842&sr=1-1
Prudence Mapstone (she's a featured artist on this site) is someone else who creates amazing pieces using organic knitting.
And yes, red is a wonderful colour - can't live without it!
Have a great weekend,
Chris
