About Me:
I am an obsessive (so my husband says) textile, mixed media and fibre artist. I use the computer extensively to design and explore colour schemes and am a member of the Computer Textile Design Group. I am also a keen photographer and as well as using it as inspiration for my art work, I also like to create digital art and collages which are often printed onto fabrics or special papers - even metal shim.
In essence I am a bit of a jack of all trades - love doing and trying everything especially new products and experimenting with new techniques.

Dear Shirley, I have just come across your work and looked at your web site. Your work is beautiful. I also make bags, jewellery, bowls and wallhangings and have my own book out about the bowls. Would like to add you to my friends.

Hi Shirley - thanks for the explanation on your pieces - they are absolutely stunning. I will take time out of my 48 hours in the day (LOL) to have a look at your blog. My DH has bought me an embellisher for Christmas and I am itching to use it!!!! Busy at the moment making leather notebooks and wallets. I am hopefully getting a book about slash and burning techniques for Christmas as that looks serious fun!!!

Best wishes - Karen :o)

How interesting Shirley, I will try to find the examples on your website. I have often thought that there must be a way to produce jewelry from textiles. I started making some lace earings once but I never put them on to any fixings, mind you I am not a jewelry person myself, I mean I never wear any, I love admiring it though. I have a book which shows how to make hand made jewelry and it has a few textile examples but it is not specific as your book is. When I was teaching there was a textile student who made some exquisite paper beads. They actually looked like wood by the time that she had finished them. I will be looking out for your book when it comes out. It's a lengthy old process publishing. I have one claim to fame as far as being published - just after I left college I wrote a report for the Crafts Council magazine about a seminar I had attended and they published it, as you can imagine I was thrilled to bits. Good Luck with the book, Regards Tricia

You know Shirley, I will have to learn to get to grips with this site soon, I keep finding replies that I haven't been alerted about. I have been looking at your site just now, you truly are a very busy lady. I love your boxes. How on earth do you manage to get them to be so accurate. I have always ended up with something out in the measurements. I love geometry but I am really hopeless at being accurate. I have just given up with that side of things. I just hope that it won't matter in the end. I suppose I hope that the rest of it will make up for it. What is your book going to focus on and how did you get Batsford to accept it? It's really an acheivement to be published with Batsford! They are just about the bees knees when it comes to Art/Craft books, well done! Well, I suppose I better go, I have been on this site all morning as things kept going very wrong, AOL playing up again. I have been adding some pictures on here and on my blog if you get time to look at them please do. Keep in touch and good luck with the book. Tricia

Hi Shirley,
You are a most talented and prolific person, your bags and boxes and panels are really very good indeed. It is a long time since I bumped in to you at a show, so it is nice to collide in cyberspace. Chrissie Day put me on to this networking site, she and I formed DOT together which is still going strong. Liz
