With regard to your comments above, I remember for years after finishing my literature degree I felt that I must only read novels as long and worthy as "Middlemarch' (Victorian adult novel) - e ventually gave in and read lots of Arthur Ransome (fantastic dated kids adventures in boats and exotic places )and felt much happier - the same happens with arty stuff for me. I hide things I don't feel enthusiastic about and often find them later (weeks, months later) and see something that wasn't there before that really lights my creative fire !In the meantime, I get down on the floor and literally crawl through the wool (usually accompanied by a 2 year old) until i feel like making something else.

My advice is, if you have a lot of unfinished projects, and no desire to finish them, then I say put them in a box and set them aside. No guilt. Then start to play a bit, creatively. No pressure to do anything spectacular, or sellable, or even finished. Just allow yourself to play with art supplies like when you were a kid and did it for the sheer joy. Heck, you may even want to buy yourself a new box of crayola crayons, (The big 64 pack!) or some colorful play-doh. Or cut some paper snowflakes, or paper dolls. Seriously. I think we sometimes get to a point where our art becomes one-more-thing-to-do, and we need to let go and reconnect with just the magic of creative play. Best Wishes! Victoria

At 9:21am on September 16, 2007, Sandra Wyman said…: I know that feeling only too well. How about setting aside very specific time for creating: this works for me except for sometimes (LOL). I'm also finding that getting rid of the clutter is very freeing up (though a lot of effort to begin with and I have a long way to go!). Keeping everything out of my studio except for creative stuff (I have several pairs of trousers needing hemming folded in a neat pile in the wardrobe) and making it a rule never to take stuff like this into the studio unless I am going to deal with it there and then. Other things I've found helpful at various times are having a priority list for the day that includes an equal number of "ought-tos" and "want-tos" and you are not allowed to do all the ought-tos first before skipping to a want-to - i.e. alternate between the two; also setting a deadline time when chores have to be done by - I discovered that way I managed to do them in half the time! Above all remember that YOU are important and that no-one really wants a wife/lover/mom/friend/whatever who is fed up and resentful because she's not able to be the person she needs to be. (Mind you, this is all advice I need to remind myself about a lot of the time!)

True! I put creativity WAY back in my life....it's a struggle to consider it a priority tho.

I wonder why it's so easy to feel guilty about a dirty house but so hard to give ouselves permission to be creative as a priority (I struggle with this all the time). Yet clean is mostly a cultural concept, whereas creativity is fundamental to life, at least I think it is!

Art venting here

For a lot of reasons, my regular blog (while still having some art/fiber elements...how could it not) is going toward more of a "mommy" blog.

So, i think I'll vent my ideas, etc here. First. I haven't gotten into the studio in weeks. Then when I do, there's a pile of mending - BORING sewing projects stacked up. Ugh! Sick of it!

I have a few ideas I want to try, just always feel guilty that the house is dirty , etc.

Ok, that's my vent.
