Happy Turkey Day everyone!

We're having friends over, playing games and stitching. Should be a wonderfully relaxing day! I hope all of yours is wonderful too!

PS - the card above came from my Mother in Law from Blue Mountain - isn't it fabulous?

Back to our regularly scheduled programming

Now that the "big drawing" is over - it's time to get back to real life and crafty stuff. Well, actually all of that has been happening all along, I just haven't had the time to write about everything that's happening.

Now, brace yourselves because there will be some "kid pictures" here for the Grandparents who have heard a ton about our holiday happenings and weren't able to make it to any. HOwever, one event was crafty (so might be of interest).

Missy C's class at school did projects on Denver buildings - this was hers - I think it was a cool choice - the building at the corner of Broadway and California that was built around the Holy Ghost church. She did it all herself with just a few "how-to" pointers from us! If you want to see more of the models, hop over to my flickr. Some were great!

The here's Matey Moo in his school production "Bugz, the musical". The kids were adorable.

I have been doing a ton of stitching on my crewel project, my silk on satin advent calendar and my quilting. All coming soon! Here's a sneak peek at the hand quilting tho - first try (over the top of my first try at needleturn finished YEARS ago. This will go up on Etsy - hopefully before the holidays - so watch for it! :)

And the winner is....

Number 3! Amy Falconetti - who didn't leave much contact information, but did say:

I like fresh and natural scents too. But my favorite scent right now is my baby girl who turned 1 today! This is my first time visiting your blog, but I think I'll be back again.

Yay! A first time visitor AND has a baby! So, Amy, unfortunately you didn't send me your contact info, but feel free to email me at mary-frances@widgetinc.com and I'll get the basket to you, courtesy of my new friends at Glade!

I wish you all could have won - but this was my first successful giveaway - so thanks! :) It was fun!

I'm Giving away an IKEA basket with cool stuff in it! (thanks Glade!)

Do you remember my post on my nice night out courtesy of Glade? Here I am in all my fuzzy glory holding the basket that CAN BE YOURS! That fuzzy lump in my hand includes an IKEA basket, an IKEA blanket, a glass container with chocolate and marshmellow drink mix, one of the really cool (more about this in a sec) Glade "Sense and Spray" starter kit with one refill. The blanket color is kind of my favorite color right now!

Here's the cup I decorated - front (It says "I love Crafts"):

And back (that's supposed to be a quilt):

Which washes off! :D - I'm not really sad if you wash it up and use the white cup (it's a nice white cup) and if you really want to keep my artistry you can shellac the cup and use it that way.

So, here's the scoop about the Glade Sense and Spray - I never do product reviews, and so don't count this as one, but after using it for a while, it really is groovy - there's a sensor so it goes off a few seconds after you pass by. Then it's locked for 30 mins so it doesn't spray all the time. I never would have gone out of my way to buy one, but now I do actually think they're pretty cool - watch for coupons if you don't win this giveaway!

Being geeks here it's really about as "high tech" as room scents get!

My only complaint is the spray that came with ours is a bit subtle (we're using it in the bathroom - not the place for subtle) - but even then it's nice! And the basket comes with the "starter cartridge" and a different scented refill - so it should set you up nicely.

So, leave a comment on this post to be eligible and mention your favorite smell or scent. I'll get a kid to randomly draw a number on Friday night - so put your name in soon.

Oh, and the shipping is courtesy of our hosts, so I CAN ship this internationally if you all are willing to wait for customs (you probably know your own customs better than I do and whether or not they'll be fussy about the package!).

**Note - try to be sure to leave me a way to contact you too! Although I'll post the winner's name on the blog! :)

COMMENTS are CLOSED! Thanks for all the entries and the winner will be announced soon!

Ooooo! Me Likey!

So excited about this:

I've been reading "Sense and Sensibility" and finished a while ago "Pride and Prejudice" - Rex claims everyone goes through a "Jane Austen" phase! And I ran across this on Craft Magazine (had I known I could win a copy I would have hopped right on it!) and so now have put in an "order" with my brother in England to get me a copy - it's crazy expensive here in the US.

Anyway, right up my alley with historical needlework and crafts! I can't wait!

Thanks for ALL the support (here and on Facebook) for my writers block. I finally got up at 5:30am this morning and just totally finished it. Today my friend Jani is coming over to "test" my tutorial, so all should be good. Tutorials are rough - it's sometimes really hard to make sure you're explaining this so they're understandable to someone. Luckily I have pictures to help!

Hi Mary-Frances, thanks for the friend invite - I'd love to! With regard to your comments above, I remember for years after finishing my literature degree I felt that I must only read novels as long and worthy as "Middlemarch' (Victorian adult novel) - e ventually gave in and read lots of Arthur Ransome (fantastic dated kids adventures in boats and exotic places )and felt much happier - the same happens with arty stuff for me. I hide things I don't feel enthusiastic about and often find them later (weeks, months later) and see something that wasn't there before that really lights my creative fire !In the meantime, I get down on the floor and literally crawl through the wool (usually accompanied by a 2 year old) until i feel like making something else.

Hi Mary-Frances, and thanks for the kind words you left for me! In regards to being stuck, I know this feeling well! My advice is, if you have a lot of unfinished projects, and no desire to finish them, then I say put them in a box and set them aside. No guilt. Then start to play a bit, creatively. No pressure to do anything spectacular, or sellable, or even finished. Just allow yourself to play with art supplies like when you were a kid and did it for the sheer joy. Heck, you may even want to buy yourself a new box of crayola crayons, (The big 64 pack!) or some colorful play-doh. Or cut some paper snowflakes, or paper dolls. Seriously. I think we sometimes get to a point where our art becomes one-more-thing-to-do, and we need to let go and reconnect with just the magic of creative play. Best Wishes! Victoria

Ok, my fibre support group! I need help! I'm STUCK! I keep looking at a bunch of unfinished projects and have NO desire to finish any of them. I'm even totally avoiding the studio. I'm not inspired....I'm just totally stuck in one spot.

Any hints? What would you gals do?

I know that feeling only too well. How about setting aside very specific time for creating: this works for me except for sometimes (LOL). I'm also finding that getting rid of the clutter is very freeing up (though a lot of effort to begin with and I have a long way to go!). Keeping everything out of my studio except for creative stuff (I have several pairs of trousers needing hemming folded in a neat pile in the wardrobe) and making it a rule never to take stuff like this into the studio unless I am going to deal with it there and then. Other things I've found helpful at various times are having a priority list for the day that includes an equal number of "ought-tos" and "want-tos" and you are not allowed to do all the ought-tos first before skipping to a want-to - i.e. alternate between the two; also setting a deadline time when chores have to be done by - I discovered that way I managed to do them in half the time! Above all remember that YOU are important and that no-one really wants a wife/lover/mom/friend/whatever who is fed up and resentful because she's not able to be the person she needs to be. (Mind you, this is all advice I need to remind myself about a lot of the time!)

that is such a good idea...and frankly never occured to me. I always try to slug throught the boring stuff to get to art.

True! I put creativity WAY back in my life....it's a struggle to consider it a priority tho.

Thanks for your suggestions....support is a beautiful thing!

is there anywhere else you could put the mending and boring projects, even temporarily? If they put you off going in the studio they'll be draining your energy while you are in there.

I wonder why it's so easy to feel guilty about a dirty house but so hard to give ouselves permission to be creative as a priority (I struggle with this all the time). Yet clean is mostly a cultural concept, whereas creativity is fundamental to life, at least I think it is!

Art venting here

For a lot of reasons, my regular blog (while still having some art/fiber elements...how could it not) is going toward more of a "mommy" blog.

So, i think I'll vent my ideas, etc here. First. I haven't gotten into the studio in weeks. Then when I do, there's a pile of mending - BORING sewing projects stacked up. Ugh! Sick of it!

I have a few ideas I want to try, just always feel guilty that the house is dirty , etc.

Ok, that's my vent.
