Branching Out

As you may know, I wear two 'hats'; as well as making and writing about art, I spent many years working with individuals and groups in a business setting. So, not being one to waste anything, I've decided to combine those two skill sets, and offer a new service; Quilt Creative Coaching. I remember what it was like starting out as an art quilter. It was scary. At that time, there were very few books to consult, and finding another art quilter was...well...difficult, except on the internet. Which… Continue

Looking for a workshop...

for a group of artists? Perhaps I can help you... I offer a wide range of workshops, including those that are described below. And there are more to follow; if you are familiar with my work, you will know that I work in mixed media and paint as well as textile, so I can offer a wide range of technique and process workshops. If you don't see it here, why not email me and ask about it, as I specialise in bespoke workshops. I love working with groups, but limit the size to twelve at the most. I ca… Continue

Blatant Self Publicity...

but you could get something out of it too! I love doing commission work, and these are the responses to one such commission... read about it, and vote for your favourite, on my main blog here . You could win one of them!

I've Just Had A Brainstorm...

I've started two new groups, both for sellers and buyers of the two shopping sites I belong to, Etsy and Dawanda. I find Dawanda in particular quite a challenging environment to work in, and thought that it might be a good thing to have an additional forum for us to exchange news, views and ideas! Buyers are doubly welcome, of course...it's good to hear what you think of these places, and of the kinds of things you're looking for. If you ask us for things, who knows, we might be able to provide… Continue

Happy Monday...

started when I got a post from a friend, asking if I realised there was a short article about me in Magic Patch Magazine... Well, no, I thought, I didn't... but isn't that cool! I also had an email on Sunday, telling me that I was a featured artist here... http://www.talentdatabase.com/channels/1-Art . I have a small gallery on this site, must add some more work! It's a really interesting site, lots of good art of all descriptions to look at, well worth a visit.

I never thought I'd get… Continue

Nobody mentioned...

that Etsy was more of a way of life than an online shop... I can't believe how much time I spend on the site!! There is, I admit, a lot to learn, and a huge amount to see; the number of sellers on the site is distinctly scary...it's difficult to get yourself noticed at all... I'm having fun, though. I've met a lot of lovely, friendly, supportive people, had a lot of laughs and even managed to sell some stuff in the process! I didn't expect that, really, in my first month.

Busy, Busy...

making all sorts of things, including some ACEOs. I'd never made any of these wee darlings before, and I'm having fun. I'll rephrase that...I've made ATCs in textile before, but never in paper...and now I have. Well, actually, I haven't. I used lutradur and pelmet vilene...but no stitch. But I've got lots of paper and the like, and I suspect I'm going to have a happy time making some painted ACEOs. I'm hooked!

Woo Hoo...

I just sold a quilt!!!!!! That's the good news. I sold 'Fly, Fly, Dragonfly', pictured here, to my therapist...I took the quilts to show her, because they're such fun, and indicative, I hope, of a change in my attitudes to all sorts of things...for those of you who don't know, I suffer from clinical depression, and have been therapy going since a cri… Continue

Like I say on my other blog, I have a somewhat overblown sense of humour. I laugh a lot. But that doesn't come out in my art. It has now, though. I found a bit of cloth that appealed, added other bits, including a piece of vintage kimono that had been kicking about for ages, giggled a bit, added some applique text, giggled some more, added some quilted writing and Bob's your uncle, as they say...

I'm going to make more of these..I like this way of working. Tee… Continue

Okay...

I did it...I made an Etsy shop all for my little self!!! Hurrah!!! Now, though, I'm at the bottom of what looks like a VERY steep learning curve. Any and all advice would be gratefully received...I seem to have spent all day at the computer and my wee fingers are starting to *hurt*. Still, I've done it now.

The next time I find myself thinking 'I can't be bothered', or an equivalent, I'm going to change it to 'I'm scared of this'. Procrastination isn't just the thief of time, it's the… Continue

I'm coming to the conclusion...

that I think too much. It gets in the way of things. A case in point is Etsy. Anyone else would just take the photos, set up the page and get on with it. I think about it. And think about it. And think about it. Then I think round it (how clever, to be able to set something like that up...). Then I think in tangents ( I wonder how you go about teaching on line....) Then I think oppositionally (should have a website first...). Then I get to the defeatist stuff (nobody would want to buy it...). An… Continue

Hello (New) World...

I found this lovely place courtesy of Shirley Goodwin, and thought I'd just dive straight in, and worry about it later... I'm a Scot based in Norfolk, UK, I paint, dye, sew, embroider, use encaustics, make books, alter books... do lots of different things, many of which have no relation one to the other, some of which do, and all those combinations may be altered without notice whenever I feel like it!

Now I'm off to Explore...I may be some time... lets see...who else do we know here?.… Continue
