I'm so sorry, Diana, but I just saw your question to me on the site. Here's a link to find the textile hangers from 10000 villages: http://www.tenthousandvillages.com/catalog/search.php

Hiiiiiiiii Diana!! I woke up to the (Cdn.) news covering allllllllll the doings in DC in prep. for The Big Day aaaaaaand...instantly thought of YOUUUUUUUUU!!!! Not long now, is it!!!! I'm sooooooooooo excited and as for you and your darling, daaaaaaaarling Dad - and how woooooooonderful to think to take his photo with your Special Quilt!!!! - as REAL, LIVE AMERICANS, whaaaaaaaaat J-O-Y you must be experiencing!!!! I'm soooooo grateful that we get the Big 3 (ABC, CBS & NBC) as well as CNN & 2 - count 'e m, 2!! - PBS channels (Seattle & Detroit)!!!! Thanks to them, I hope to be able to spend allllllllllllll of Jan. 20 GLUED to the tv!!!! CAN'T wait!!!! As for my art - you are sooooooo kind and encouraging, D - many, maaaaaaaany thanks!!!! My spare bdrm. is finally empty and I plan to...dump out allllllll of my plastic tubs of fabric onto the bed in there and 'divine' a brand, new project!! I'm with you, I want to go 'small' this year - I spend a ridiculous amt. of time on approx. 3' x 3.5'/4'-ish sized quilts and then...hate how they turned out!! The Best Thing I've ever made is this teeny, tiny quilt (quilt-let??) - maybe 9" x 12" or not even that big. I had a glorious time embellishing it and then mounting it on a 16" x 20" canvas that I had painted beforehand. My son - a world traveller and gallery-hound - saw the pce. whilst it was still half-done and ...blew me away when he raved and raved about it AND asked if I would make a gift of it to him!!!! This is a first!! I mean, I've made him a gazillion gifts over the years, but this is the first time he's come out and...a-s-k-e-d me for something I've made!! I could not be more flaaaaaaaattered nor more...gobsmacked!! (That's British and Cdn. for "punched in the mouth" and/or stunned!!) Must dash before I booooore you silly!! Hugs, Charlotte

You going to do something for the inauguration? It's one I would love to be able to attend! I bet your Barcardi cake is much the same. We ate this one on midnight shifts during holidays !

Hi Diana! Thanks so much for the friends request. I am so pleased to know that you are here on Fiber Arts! Have you done a portrait of Eartha Kitt yet - what an amazing woman she was ! The cake has a real kick! I just made it and had forgotten about that part. If you wan less of a kick add less than the 1C of rum to the glaze. Also - the cake mellows really well and is actually much better after a day or so. M

Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, it has been a lot to deal with but things are looking up. Roger and I dated 2 years before we married so all in all we've been together almost 34 years. The time apart was good for both of us in so many ways. I have positive hopes that we'll have another 34 years together. Tell me about your book. When is it coming out, who is publishing, title etc!! How exciting!

I would be happy to have you come on a buying trip to central Florida. I mean it when I say I'll pick you up and drive you around! I want to go to Houston. I had hoped for this year but life got in the way. Weird year here-- I lost my mother, Roger lost his mother and he and I had been separated for 10 months. We kept working on it and I moved back in in August--will have our 32nd anniversary in January. He just had spinal surgery last Monday so we're working through the recovery from that and now it's Christmas! Geez! Anyway, perhaps we will run into each other in Houston. Remind me next year and we'll make a plan to meet up! I would love to see some of your dyed fabric.
Peace,
Deb

Oooh, I am so bad about checking this board, sorry! The bamboo textile hangers I use come from a fair trade shop here in Raleigh called Ten Thousand Villages. Dharma has some but they're expensive.

Hi There Diana, I have been in the same place your are and that I did not know what to lable myself or my Art work. So ,Then people Did Not know what to call my Art work. Also I work with many , Many different types of mediums I've learn it's up to me to educate people on what to call my Art work. I decided that Embellishment Artist was a great over all Label even though I really think labels are very limiting!! I've learned through the years that when talking about my Art work I try NOT worry about what Ideas or what others my think they know about how I create because I'm the only one that really knows. For many years I did not think of myself or my work to be Art. It was the many remarks form the public calling it Art,.so I began to let my fear go about calling my work ARt. Now I have NO problem calling whatever I do FIBERART, QUILT ART, TEXTILE ART, WEARBLE ART, I just go with the flo. The One thing I hope to leave you with is just be and know Your ARt. Do not worry about how others are trying to LABLE your ART be happy that you are so Unique that they can't!!! Doing ARt on the Wild side is Fun! Let people kept guessing ,it keeps your ARtself juices flowing. Whatever you call your Art your are the one that knows that it is work that comes form your HEART and SOUL. Remmember you are the Queen of your World and what you Rule must BE. Run on the wild side and have No Fear. Cynthy

Diana, Your Art Work is Wild and WonderFul! I love what you mind and third eye see's in fabric and the placement of that Fabric. Your textile paintings If I may call them that, are truly works of ART... It's nice to see another Artist who likes to run on the wild side.. Regards, Cynthy

Hi Diana - glad you liked the trees. It started off as a silk painting and then free machined over it adding various materials/fibres etc. If you look at the photo Trees 1 (I think......) it shows the silk painting that I did first - Trees 2 is the embellished version. My husband has just bought me an embellisher for Christmas so I am dying to use it but need about 48 hours in the day at the moment!! LOL. Have been doing quite a bit of bookbinding and went on a workshop yesterday for leather bookbinding which was great. Might post a photo of the books I made - it's really easy and I can see all kinds of opportunities to add pieces made on the embellisher or free machine embroidery.

Best wishes.

Karen :o)

Hi Diana, Just been having a quick look at your work it is so wonderful.
Right now I am at the pointy end of a visual arts course I have been doing and as I leave things till the last minute way behind my deadline.
I also have to do things that I dont really want to do to meet requirements . That is good for me really.
Right now I am in a dying phase I do all kinds of textile stuff but felting, knitting and natural fibres seem to be the thing I end up back with.
Must get on with the boring notes.
Cheers from Down under down under
Jen
