Making vellels and containers from Angelina or Lutradur

I've tried using angelina and boing hot water between two bowl forms but alas it didn't work. Or maybe I didn't do it right? Anyone have a clue or hint on making these basic forms?

I use a lot of Lutradur in my fiber work and am going to start experimenting with it instead of using it on a bas relief surface.

I only lack time in my day and a good place to work. I have my classrooms where I teach but we are not suppose to use them for our personal studios. My husband just looks at my mess and projects in the dinning room and sighs. He's a good guy but I wonder if he secretly wants a tornado to come and blow it all away?

Any hints or clues on the lutraur or angelina vessel making is appreciated.

No wonder no one wants to answer my question...I can't spell the word vessel.

Connie, i think Angelina will only react to heat if it's dry--i could be wrong----maybe try bonding some sheets of it, cutting sections out like darts (in a sense), shaping around a form, then lightly stitching it or adding sections of more angelina and heating that? It sounds fascinating and i'd love to see what you're doing with it.
I'll have to try it myself now that you've mentioned it :}
And i love working with lutrador, having a steady supply of it where i work :}

Arlee,
I found some instructions on the internet called "Pretty and Delicate Cups from Angelina Fibres." they call for boiling water and two small plastic pudding basins of the same size. One you carefully line with a thin layer of Angelina and then place the other basin within the first.
They then tell me to pour boiling water into the top basin and place both basins into a larger container like mixing bowl and pour more boiling water into the container to just below the rim of both basins.
Let stand for 15 minutes and then lift the basins out othe larger container.

Ok, I did all of that and nothing...nada...no way.
I'm willing to keep trying but I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong as I'm folloing the directions to a "T."

If I ever get it right, I will let you know.

On another note - I taught a Fiber Bead workshop this weekend and it went really well. We did everything from Felted beads all the way to poly- beads. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

Have a good week.

Hmm, i'd be contacting the makers of angelina and finding out for sure :} It sounds like if it worked, you could build some BIG pieces, food for thought!

Was it the heat bondable type you used???? I'm going to give this a shot today!

Yes, heat bonadable. I think I now own stock in Angelina I have so much. I'm going to try again when time allows after work or between jobs. Let me know if it works for you.
I usually do really big pieces, so yes, I thought of doing a large container if I can just figure out the secret.

Cool! We'll have to compare notes :}

I have not tried using Lutradur yet. I think it has good potential though. I have made several vessels.
I am happy to find this group! Please visit my blog to see posts about my TAKE out Box>online class:
Title: Think "outside" the Take out Box, 4 lessons, $45, starts Oct 08.
If you are interested>join my yahoo group:

The box also has "secret" contents. This is revealed in the last lesson.
The box can be made, of course, with any theme or contents.

Otherwise, see the image of my "vessel"
It has 3 sides and is made from fragments of textile art.

I am very interested in communicating about vessels and how to make them with various methods.

Love to hear from you!

Debbie,

Love your website. Nice creations.

Right now I'm in the middle of preparing to start the fall classes for our art magnet high school and my adult classes. I just finished teaching fiber to 100's of children this summer (I'm am so glad that's over).
In the middle of all of this I have three fiber shows to prepare and two re-cycle art openings with several artists.
I have stopped working on my vessels except for woven baskets until I have more time to "play."
I keep wondering when some time will open up for me? I just keep running from one class or project to another class or project.

I plan on doing some experimenting in my "Layering it on Hot and Wet classes to figure out what I haven't done with all my UK fibers. I also teach Fiber Mojo where we work with textiles and embellishments, so that's another option to squeeze in some moments of personal creativity.

Must run. Keep in touch. I've bookmarked your site.
Thank you for the note.
